~Why is archery popular today in the U.S.?~

     In the U.S., archery is popular today because of the impact of a movie called The Hunger Games has young people in a craze.

     This movie is a film of a novel, and the novel’s name is the same as the movie. This movie’s main character is a female teenager, and her name is Katniss.  In the movie, this character was strong, brave, intelligent, beautiful, and popular. So, many children, especially girls, started to pretend to be like her. Katniss’s ability is archery. For this reason, many people started to shoot bows.

     Another reason for its popularity is, archery is a sport, but compared to other sports, it is a less physical sport. Also archery is played by one person, so it is an independent event. There for, you can practice when you’re free, you don’t have to go to practice together with others. Also due to the effect of The Hunger Games, many children started archery, and it became a family sport, it may bring together fathers and daughters. This year, it is also an Olympic year, so that might be the multiplier effect of the popularity of archery.

     These are the reasons why archery got popular in the U.S.

Tour information for The Hunger Games fans

     Did you already watch The Hunger Games movie? If so, you might have notice the beautiful nature in the film. This movie was filmed entirely in North Carolina.

     

     Now in North Carolina, they’re ready for tourists to have them visit the place where the movie was shot. There is some information about the tour that I can tell now. If you would like to have an adventurous activity in the woods, a company called ‘Hunger Games Fan Tours’ can set up a perfect tour for you. In this tour, you can experience archery, camouflage, fire-building, how to use sling shot, and how to walk quietly in the forest.

      

     There is another company called “The state Division of Tourism” that has designed four-day self-guided tour for fans of the movie. You can able to see the place where the movie was shot. I can say that in this case, the more you know about the movie, the more fun you will have

Opinion for The Hunger Games

I had been reading The Hunger Games, by the author Suzanne Collins. This book is a science fiction, in the future, story about a dystopian society. I like the way the how the author wrote about a sad, cruel world. In some of the chapter, it gives us hope for Katniss, but the author never forgets to make a foreshadowing. That makes the story very interesting and unstoppable to read.

I also watched The Hunger Games movie. I didn’t like the way producer made the film from the book. I guess they focused on making money. They didn’t make the film violent as the book, to make the rating low, so children can watch the movie too. I wanted the movie to be exactly like the book. In the movie, the important part in the book was omitted, like the present from the other district for Katniss.

But I know my opinion is a minority, so I strongly recommend to watch the movie and to read the book.

Spring Break!

 During this spring vacation, most of the students were off campus. Some of them went to TaB Trip, Seattle, Washington, California, Portland, and more! Well, what I did was nothing, I stayed on campus. At first, we were supposed to make plans and go somewhere, but none of us were able to make a plan, because we were all too busy. So we couldn’t turn in our plan and ended up staying on campus. I really wanted to go somewhere, but I decided to just relax and enjoy my free time.

Most of the time we played soccer and frisbee at Sparks field, and ran on a treadmill in Sparks.

We also went to Woodburn, outlet shopping mall. There was a lot of stores in there. I had fun shopping there. I spent too much money, so now I have to save each penny.

Pow...wow!

This day, I couldn’t go to the early Powwow because I slept in, although it wasn’t on purpose. I got up by my friends call, I was very sleepy. But I had a homework assignment so I had to go. Once I got there, I was completely awake, the sound of drums beating in my heart, I heard a song, I didn't know what they were singing, but it was a comfortable melody for me. At last, I saw the people dancing, and it was completely awesome, because there isn’t anything like this in Japan. Now, I want to learn more about Pow wows, so maybe I will look it up and enjoy watching it.

　The location for the Pow wow was in Sparks, and there was a lot of shops. There were traditional crafts, accessories, flute, some kind of string instrument that is similar to banjo, dream catchers, T-shirt and more! And outside of the building, there were Indian tacos and fried bread, I tried an Indian Taco, but it was difficult to eat. There are some pictures that I took. I’m so sorry my camera performance is poor, but this is the picture of drum. They all hit the drum at the same time singing a specific song. And next, take a look at this guy. He’s wearing a beautiful costume. At first, I thought he was scary. But once I talked to him, I figured it out that he was a very kind and funny person.

 

The Pow wow was a great fun. It is always interesting to learn about other cultures.
